First meeting

25 of 25 questions

Their vision

  • How do you picture the day, in three words?
  • A wedding you loved, and another you liked less: why?
  • What matters most to the two of you?
  • Is there a tradition you want to keep, or avoid?

Date and venue

  • Is the date fixed, or do you have a period in mind?
  • Is the venue chosen? If not, by what criteria?
  • Civil, humanist or religious ceremony?
  • A single day, or several moments?

The guests

  • Roughly how many guests, and does a list already exist?
  • Are any guests travelling far and needing somewhere to stay?
  • Children among the guests? Any special needs (access, diets)?

The budget

  • What overall budget do you have in mind, and who is contributing?
  • Which items are non-negotiable?
  • Where are you happy to save?
  • Have you set aside a margin for the unexpected?

Who decides

  • Who decides, and who needs to be consulted (parents, best man or maid of honour)?
  • Who will be my day-to-day contact?
  • Would you like regular catch-ups, and in what form?

Suppliers

  • Which suppliers have you already booked?
  • Are there any you’d like me to contact, or avoid?

How I can help

  • What do you expect from me: advice, coordination, full planning?
  • What would you like to do yourselves?
  • What worries you most?
  • How do you prefer to be contacted?
  • What are your next deadlines?

The answers, in an online questionnaire

In Weddtap Pro, the couple answers the questionnaire on their phone before the meeting, and the answers land in the wedding’s file.

Key takeaways

25 questionsin seven themes, from the couple’s vision to how you’ll help.

  • Twenty-five first-meeting questions in seven themes: the couple’s vision, date and venue, guests, budget, who decides, suppliers and how you’ll help.
  • Keep the ones you want to ask, then copy the selection or print it on A4 with two note lines under each question.
  • Budget comes up at this first meeting, at least as an order of magnitude: it decides the venue, the guest count and what you can propose.

How the list is built

  1. 01The questions run from open to concrete: vision first, then budget and decisions.
  2. 02Any question can be removed; the selection can be copied or printed.
  3. 03When printed, two note lines follow each question you kept.
  4. 04It all happens in your browser: nothing is sent, nothing is kept.

Frequently asked questions

Before you meet the couple

How long does a first meeting last?
An hour to an hour and a half is usually enough. Better to ask a few questions and listen to the answers than to run through the whole list.
Which questions should you start with?
The couple’s vision: they open the conversation without talking about money. The budget comes next, once trust is there.
Should you talk about budget at the first meeting?
Yes, at least the order of magnitude: it decides the type of venue, the guest count and what you can propose. A quote without a known budget is a gamble.
